The Nanostructuring of Atomically Flat Ru(0001) upon Oxidation and Reduction
The O/Ru(0001) system is widely studied due to its rich phase variety of various stoichiometry and atomic arrangements, including the formation of a RuO2/Ru(0001) oxide layer. Apart from homogeneous ruthenium surfaces in certain oxidation states, also strongly heterogeneous surfaces can exist due to oxidation state's variation at the nanoscale. We report on a scanning tunneling microscopy (STM)...
متن کاملX-ray scattering study of the stoichiometric recovery of the a-Fe2O3(0001) surface
The stoichiometric recovery and accompanying changes of subsurface atomic structure of Ar ion sputtered, oxygen deficient a-Fe2O3(0001) are studied with X-ray scattering. Although oxygen annealing up to 735 C results in a stoichiometric top surface layer manifested as a (1 · 1) surface structure, the X-ray scattering reveals the existence of a non-stoichiometric phase in the subsurface region. ...
متن کاملCatalysis science of supported vanadium oxide catalysts.
Supported vanadium oxide catalysts contain a vanadium oxide phase deposited on a high surface area oxide support (e.g., Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2, etc.) and have found extensive applications as oxidation catalysts in the chemical, petroleum and environmental industries. This review of supported vanadium oxide catalysts focuses on the fundamental aspects of this novel class of catalytic materials (molec...
متن کاملLow Temperature CO Oxidation on Ruthenium Oxide Thin Films at Near-Atmospheric Pressures
Ruthenium model catalysts in the form of thin ruthenium oxide films grown on Ru(0001) were studied in the CO oxidation reaction at near-atmospheric pressures. The surfaces were prepared under vacuum conditions prior to the reactivity measurements carried out in a circulating flow reactor using gas chromatography. The films possessing oxygen in amounts equivalent to 1–4 monolayers (MLE) on Ru(00...
متن کاملReply to comment on ‘‘CO oxidation on ruthenium: The nature of the active catalytic surface’’ by H. Over,
The premise of our Letter [1] was to state emphatically that under the conditions of the early studies of Peden and Goodman (PG) [2] RuO2 cannot be formed as the main active phase on Ru(0001) as proved by recent SXRD studies [3], and that a monolayer oxygen-covered Ru(0001) surface is the active phase for CO oxidation in the early PG studies. This monolayer oxygen-covered surface has recently b...
